Denture FAQs: understanding your options

What are dentures?

Dentures are prosthetic devices constructed to replace missing teeth and are supported by the surrounding soft and hard tissues of the oral cavity. Conventional dentures are removable. There are two types of dentures, Full Dentures, and Partial Dentures. Full dentures replace all of a person’s upper or lower teeth. A partial denture replaces several missing teeth, similar to a dental bridge.

Lost Mountain Dental offers several types of dentures and will guide you in selecting the best based on your needs, concerns, goals, and budget. Our Marrietta, GA office offers cosmetic dentures because they are highly aesthetic and look and feel just like natural teeth. The cosmetic dentures are custom-tailored to the patient and designed to fit comfortably and naturally. Dentures can be removable or fixed. Fixed dentures are anchored by dental implants.

Do dentures feel normal?

Modern technology has made it possible for dentures to feel like they belong in your mouth. Dentures are made to have a secure fit, with no worries about dentures falling out when you eat or speak, and have the ability to eat and drink without restrictions.

How much do dentures cost?

The cost of dentures is dependent on a patient’s condition, type of denture chosen, and materials used. Dr. Mulkey will provide patients with a variety of treatment options and costs. Dr. Mulkey will present patients with various options and costs of treatment. Lost Mountain Dental also offers flexible payment options and a savings plan for qualified patients.

Why should you replace missing teeth?

When a tooth is lost, the jaw bone goes through a process of resorption, which closes the gap where the tooth once occupied at the expense of the surrounding dental structure. As a result, teeth shift, the jaw bone deteriorates, and patients lose biting strength.

Replacing missing teeth is important for long-term dental health. Missing teeth can contribute to a cosmetic problem, but can also cause future problems with your remaining teeth. Any remaining teeth may drift into the open spaces and could change your bite and affect your ability to chew, or in this case, can cause bone loss, gum disease, or decay.
